Join Our Team as a Director of Health and Safety. Are you an experienced health and safety professional with a proven track record in leading teams and driving safety excellence? Wilson James is seeking a Director of Health and Safety to act as the competent person for the business, advising on governance, best practice, and continuous improvement across all areas of our operations. This is a senior role with direct influence on our safety culture and performance, providing the opportunity to lead the HSW Team, manage safety across multiple sectors, and ensure our business remains compliant with statutory obligations and industry standards.
Job Responsibility:
Lead as the business' Health & Safety expert, providing guidance on compliance, governance, and best practice
Manage and develop the HSW Team, ensuring every area of the business has the right safety support
Drive the health and safety strategy, setting clear annual targets and monitoring performance across the business
Oversee all accidents and incidents, ensuring statutory obligations and insurance requirements are met
Champion a proactive safety culture through leadership tours, engagement initiatives, and regular safety campaigns
Advise senior management and the Executive Board on safety performance and continuous improvement opportunities
Ensure compliance with safety accreditations, ISO standards, and digital safety platforms such as SAFE 365 and Notify
Deliver and support health and safety training, promoting ongoing development and best practice across the organisation
Requirements:
NEBOSH Diploma and professional membership to IOSH
Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a safety professional with governance experience
Proven ability to implement a proactive safety culture
Proficient in IT systems, digital safety platforms, and reporting
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to report to Board Members
Ability to act quickly and safely under pressure

Trainer/Assessor (Level 3) certificate
