Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to oversee all financial operations of a municipal organization in South Carolina. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing budgets, and providing strategic financial advice to leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to implement effective policies and guide the financial team in achieving organizational goals.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and manage all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, and grant management
  • Provide expert financial advice and recommendations to the Town Administrator to support decision-making
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry best practices
  • Supervise and audit the work of financial staff to maintain adherence to accounting standards
  • Coordinate the preparation and development of the annual operating and capital budget
  • Oversee the accurate recording of financial transactions, including assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures
  • Monitor departmental budgets and expenditures, recommending adjustments to optimize the use of resources
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, as well as bank and credit card accounts on a monthly basis
  • Prepare journal entries for month-end processes, including interest, depreciation, and other adjustments
  • Ensure timely completion of payroll reports for federal, state, unemployment, and retirement purposes

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in managing annual budgets and financial reporting within a municipal or similar organization
  • Expertise in month-end close processes and general ledger reconciliation
  • Strong knowledge of budget planning, monitoring, and adjustment practices
  • Ability to develop and implement cash flow forecasts and financial strategies
  • Proficiency in preparing payroll reports and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and standards
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple financial processes
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear financial guidance and collaborate effectively with leadership
