We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to oversee all financial operations of a municipal organization in South Carolina. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing budgets, and providing strategic financial advice to leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to implement effective policies and guide the financial team in achieving organizational goals.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and manage all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, and grant management
Provide expert financial advice and recommendations to the Town Administrator to support decision-making
Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry best practices
Supervise and audit the work of financial staff to maintain adherence to accounting standards
Coordinate the preparation and development of the annual operating and capital budget
Oversee the accurate recording of financial transactions, including assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures
Monitor departmental budgets and expenditures, recommending adjustments to optimize the use of resources
Reconcile general ledger accounts, as well as bank and credit card accounts on a monthly basis
Prepare journal entries for month-end processes, including interest, depreciation, and other adjustments
Ensure timely completion of payroll reports for federal, state, unemployment, and retirement purposes
Requirements:
Proven experience in managing annual budgets and financial reporting within a municipal or similar organization
Expertise in month-end close processes and general ledger reconciliation
Strong knowledge of budget planning, monitoring, and adjustment practices
Ability to develop and implement cash flow forecasts and financial strategies
Proficiency in preparing payroll reports and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations
Solid understanding of accounting principles and standards
Exceptional analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple financial processes
Strong communication skills to provide clear financial guidance and collaborate effectively with leadership
