This is a long-term contract position requiring a hands-on approach to financial leadership and oversight. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in governmental accounting and finance, coupled with proven leadership skills and the ability to mentor a small team.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the preparation and management of the annual budget, ensuring accuracy and compliance with governmental regulations
Oversee financial reporting processes, including the generation and review of unique reports specific to government entities
Manage full-cycle accounting tasks, such as approving accounts payable, reviewing bank statements, and reconciling financial statements
Supervise payroll operations and ensure timely and accurate processing
Provide mentorship and guidance to staff members across accounting, payroll, and utility billing departments
Attend monthly commission meetings to present financial updates and address inquiries
Utilize government-specific ERP systems such as BS&A to streamline financial processes
Ensure adherence to business casual dress code while maintaining high standards of attention to detail
Collaborate with team members to enhance operational efficiency and maintain compliance with local and state regulations
Requirements:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, with a strong focus on governmental accounting
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
Proven experience in preparing and managing annual budgets within a government setting
Familiarity with BS&A or similar government ERP systems is highly preferred
Strong leadership abilities, including prior experience managing teams and mentoring staff
Expertise in full-cycle accounting, payroll oversight, and financial reporting
Knowledge of local government finance processes is highly desirable
Ability to work onsite three days per week, with flexibility for remote work on other days
