Job Description

Seeking an experienced Director of Estimating to lead their preconstruction and estimating operations for this great promotional opportunity. Our Client is seeking an experienced Director of Estimating to lead their preconstruction and estimating operations. This role will oversee bid strategy, estimating processes, team development, and client relationships across commercial electrical construction projects. This is a great promotional opportunity for a high performer in a larger firm, or an experienced & well connected go getter, looking to move up in title & responsibility.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead all estimating and preconstruction activities
  • Manage estimating team workload and bid schedules
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid packages
  • Develop conceptual and detailed estimates
  • Coordinate with project management and operations teams
  • Build relationships with GCs, developers, and owners
  • Improve estimating systems and standards
  • Mentor junior estimators

Requirements

  • 10+ years commercial electrical estimating experience
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical construction
  • Experience with Accubid or similar estimating software
  • Design-build experience preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple large bids simultaneously

  • Align on requirements and exclusion with excruciating detail and document accordingly prior to start of hard bid process
  • Review past projects, where applicable, to inform current costing and leverage historical data
  • Collaborate with in-house engineering and customer representatives to compile the Bill of Materials (BOM) for each project and secure current vendor pricing and availability for all components
  • Calculate estimated labor hours for fabrication, paint, assembly, and wiring, including the required engineering time
  • Generate the formal customer quotation and collaborate with the Sales Team to review the proposal and determine appropriate markups and pricing strategy
  • Maintain proper documentation related to each Request for Quote (RFQ) in the appropriate electronic job files. Continually look for process improvements in the estimating department
  • Collaborate Sr. Manager and Director level management to provide input to strategic revenue goals
