Robert Half is partnering with a publicly traded engineering and services organization in the San Diego area that is seeking an experienced Director of Compensation to join their team on a long-term contract / contract-to-hire basis. This is a hybrid role requiring 4 days onsite and 1 day remote. This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape and execute a unified compensation strategy during a significant period of organizational alignment, integration, and growth. Job Responsibility:
Lead the compensation workstream for a large-scale organizational alignment initiative, ensuring delivery of key milestones and implementation objectives
Design and refine job architecture frameworks, including job titling, leveling structures, and pay grade systems across multiple business groups
Evaluate existing compensation programs and recommend improvements that enhance internal equity, external competitiveness, and operational consistency
Conduct market pricing, compensation benchmarking, and survey analysis to inform salary structures and compensation strategy
Partner with HR leaders and business stakeholders to develop practical, business-aligned compensation solutions
Oversee compensation administration activities, including job evaluations, pay practice reviews, and policy guidance for managers and HR partners
Support compensation data and process harmonization across HR systems, including ADP Workforce Now and UKG Pro, as applicable
Collaborate with benefits and total rewards partners to ensure alignment across broader compensation and rewards initiatives
Requirements:
7+ years of progressive experience in compensation and/or total rewards
Strong background in mergers, acquisitions, integrations, or organizational restructuring
Proven experience designing job architecture, leveling frameworks, and compensation structures
Hands-on expertise in market pricing, benchmarking, and compensation analysis
Ability to operate in fast-paced, evolving, and complex organizational environments
Experience working across multi-entity or integrated organizations preferred
Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now and UKG Pro strongly preferred
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
