Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Director of Communications to work directly with a Robert Half client. As a Director of Communications, you will lead and execute effective communication strategies that promote organizational programs, services, and initiatives. This role, based in Detroit, Michigan, is a Contract to permanent position and requires a dynamic leader with a proven ability to manage communication efforts across various platforms and audiences. The ideal candidate will oversee both internal and external communications while ensuring alignment with corporate goals, and manage a team of multiple marketing professionals. This is a great opportunity for Communications Directors with 7+ years of leadership and executional experience in nonprofit, city or government marketing.

Job Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication and marketing strategies to enhance awareness of organizational initiatives
  • Manage internal communication efforts, including intranet updates, newsletters, and staff engagement activities
  • Oversee the organization's social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and effective audience engagement
  • Supervise website content and development to maintain a precise and user-friendly online presence
  • Craft press releases, respond to media inquiries, and coordinate media events to promote the organization's image
  • Lead a team of four staff members, providing guidance, performance management, and opportunities for growth and development
  • Collaborate with external vendors to produce high-quality creative assets that align with communication goals
  • Monitor department budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively
  • Establish and enforce communication policies, including social media usage guidelines
  • Partner with executive leadership to ensure communication strategies align with broader organizational objectives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in marketing or communications
  • Demonstrated expertise in media relations, including crafting press releases and coordinating with media outlets
  • Proficiency in managing digital media platforms, including social media and website development
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and fostering collaboration
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality outputs
  • Familiarity with working in state or municipal government settings is a plus
