We are looking for an experienced Director of Communications to work directly with a Robert Half client. As a Director of Communications, you will lead and execute effective communication strategies that promote organizational programs, services, and initiatives. This role, based in Detroit, Michigan, is a Contract to permanent position and requires a dynamic leader with a proven ability to manage communication efforts across various platforms and audiences. The ideal candidate will oversee both internal and external communications while ensuring alignment with corporate goals, and manage a team of multiple marketing professionals. This is a great opportunity for Communications Directors with 7+ years of leadership and executional experience in nonprofit, city or government marketing.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and implement comprehensive communication and marketing strategies to enhance awareness of organizational initiatives
Manage internal communication efforts, including intranet updates, newsletters, and staff engagement activities
Oversee the organization's social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and effective audience engagement
Supervise website content and development to maintain a precise and user-friendly online presence
Craft press releases, respond to media inquiries, and coordinate media events to promote the organization's image
Lead a team of four staff members, providing guidance, performance management, and opportunities for growth and development
Collaborate with external vendors to produce high-quality creative assets that align with communication goals
Monitor department budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively
Establish and enforce communication policies, including social media usage guidelines
Partner with executive leadership to ensure communication strategies align with broader organizational objectives
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in marketing or communications
Demonstrated expertise in media relations, including crafting press releases and coordinating with media outlets
Proficiency in managing digital media platforms, including social media and website development
Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and fostering collaboration
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality outputs
Familiarity with working in state or municipal government settings is a plus
