Job Description

The role of Director of Business Development – Bioprocessing. Our client is revolutionising protein research with highly disruptive and cutting-edge scientific technology that saves time, money and importantly increases scientific productivity and innovation!

Job Responsibility

  • Commercial Strategy Development: Define and execute a robust go-to-market (GtM) strategy for existing and future products, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall business goals
  • Sales Leadership: Build and manage a high-performing sales team. Set ambitious sales targets, develop sales plans, and implement strategies to maximize revenue
  • Market Expansion: Identify new markets and segments within the life sciences sector Develop targeted strategies to drive penetration and establish our client in these areas
  • Marketing Strategy: Oversee brand positioning, lead generation, and customer acquisition campaigns. Work closely with the marketing team to ensure a consistent and impactful brand message
  • Strategic Partnerships: Leverage your extensive industry network to build relationships with key stakeholders, clients, and partners, facilitating large-scale collaborations and business development opportunities
  • Product Launches: Lead global product launches by working cross-functionally with R&D, customer support, and operations to ensure seamless execution and market adoption
  • Customer Engagement: Develop a strong understanding of customer needs within the biotechnology sector, enabling our client to better serve its market and anticipate future trends
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular updates to the executive team, analyzing sales and marketing performance, forecasting future trends, and suggesting actionable improvements

Requirements

  • Proven track record (5+ years) of successfully launching products, expanding into new markets, and driving substantial revenue growth
  • Extensive contact network within the biotechnology sector, particularly in Cell Line Development, Proteomics, Process Development, and Upstream Bioprocessing Manufacturing
  • Ideally you will have already worked in a hands-on life science startup/SME environment or have the motivation & skill set to thrive in an exciting high-growth startup
  • Minimum MSc. in biology, biochemistry, or other life science-related field (PhD preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer-centric approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate market insights into actionable strategies

  • Serve as an integral member of the SUD leadership team, representing R&D in strategic planning (STRAP), portfolio prioritization, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) processes
  • Own and execute the global R&D and product development strategy aligned with the business and market needs
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Market Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams to drive end-to-end lifecycle execution
  • Engage directly with customers and commercial teams on complex technical programs
  • Partner with the Bioproduction Group Innovation team, other business groups, and the Corporate Innovation Council to develop next-generation products, platforms, and differentiated intellectual property
  • Drive technology collaboration across divisions and business units to accelerate innovation and leverage enterprise capabilities
  • Translate customer and market requirements into differentiated products that meet cost, quality, performance, regulatory, and time-to-market expectations
  • Lead the advancement of digitalization, automation, and data-enabled technologies within single-use and bioprocessing systems
  • Champion all aspects of regulated product development, ensuring compliance with design control and quality system requirements
  • Serve as process owner for New Product Introduction (NPI), Engineer-to-Order (ETO/customization), and product improvement processes
