Job Description

The Director of Billing will work closely with the finance and accounting department teams and is a business partner to the attorneys responsible for billing clients' fees and expenses.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and manage the firm's centralized billing function
  • Understand the firm's billing requirements and help improve the firm's client centric billing function based on single point of contact
  • Play a key role in recruiting new talent for the reorganized function
  • Serve as an effective leader and coach to team members
  • Provide coaching and feedback, inspiring team members' continued development
  • Identify critical business issues faced by the billing and client service team
  • Partner with financial systems management to develop billing technology solutions
  • Consider the use of machine learning/AI tools as it relates to recurring major functions
  • Evaluate, recommend, and execute continuous process improvements
  • Work closely with Risk Management and client intake team to ensure outside counsel guidelines are aligned with billing practices
  • Develop strong relationships with billing attorneys to ensure that their and their clients' needs are met

Requirements

  • Experience running a client services function within a service center environment.
  • Significant accounting experience in a professional service industry
  • Strong experience managing staff with a proven ability to lead people
  • Proven track record of successful change management
  • Experience with Aderant and e-billing systems highly desirable
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and contribute to quality team relationships
  • Ability to change and adapt to current and future responsibilities and circumstances
