Job Description

A growing, multi-state organization is seeking a Director of Accounts Payable & Cash Disbursements to lead and scale the AP function. This role oversees the full accounts payable lifecycle, including vendor administration, invoice processing, cash disbursements, internal controls, and team leadership. This is a high-impact position supporting ongoing operational changes and an upcoming ERP transition to SAP S/4HANA. The Director will help stabilize processes, implement best practices, and build a high-performing AP organization.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee end-to-end AP operations, including invoice processing, approvals, and payments (ACH, wire, check)
  • Ensure timely and accurate disbursements aligned with company policies and cash flow
  • Partner with finance to support cash forecasting and working capital management
  • Manage vendor master data governance, onboarding, and controls
  • Oversee 1099 reporting, TIN validation, and compliance
  • Maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness
  • Develop and standardize SOPs and internal controls across AP
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce errors
  • Track and report on KPIs (cycle time, on-time payments, exception rates)
  • Lead a team of ~25-30 employees, including 2 direct managers
  • Drive accountability, training, and development
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement
  • Support an upcoming SAP S/4HANA implementation
  • Align AP processes with future-state system requirements
  • Enhance reporting and visibility through existing systems

Requirements

  • 10+ years of Accounts Payable / P2P experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience managing high-volume AP operations and cash disbursements
  • Strong knowledge of: Vendor master governance
  • 1099 reporting and compliance
  • Internal controls and audit processes
  • Experience leading mid-to-large AP teams (20+ employees preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement, KPI development, and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Experience working in or alongside ERP systems (SAP experience preferred but not required)

Nice to have

  • Experience in distribution, logistics, or multi-site environments
  • Background in shared services or system implementations
