We are looking for an accomplished Director of Accounting to lead the organization’s financial operations in Jacksonville, Florida. This senior leadership role combines strategic oversight with day-to-day accountability for accounting, reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to guide both finance staff and operational leaders in support of strong financial performance and compliance.
Job Responsibility:
Direct accounting and finance activities across daily operations, ensuring accurate execution of core processes and timely completion of deliverables
Oversee major accounting functions such as general ledger management, payables, receivables, payroll, fixed assets, and financial activity related to projects or grant-funded work
Produce annual, quarterly, and monthly financial statements and regulatory reports, including preparation of the organization’s comprehensive annual financial report
Partner with department leaders and finance staff to lead budgeting and forecasting efforts while improving planning methods and financial decision-support tools
Establish, refine, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal control practices designed to safeguard assets and support regulatory compliance
Analyze financial results, communicate trends and risks to executive leadership, and provide insight into overall fiscal health and operational performance
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audit engagements by coordinating schedules, supporting documentation, and corrective actions
Monitor departmental spending, promote accountability for budget performance, and help operational teams understand key financial drivers
Lead, mentor, and evaluate accounting and finance team members to strengthen technical capability, reporting quality, and overall department effectiveness
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field
CPA designation is required
At least 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles
Minimum of 5 years leading an accounting or finance function within a mid-sized or large organization
Strong command of financial reporting, statement preparation, audit support, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
Advanced proficiency with accounting platforms and financial tools, including strong Excel capabilities
experience with cloud ERP systems and BlackLine is valuable
Working knowledge of regulations and policies affecting payroll, leave administration, leasing, sales tax, and broader financial compliance obligations
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence cross-functional partners, protect confidential information, and explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders
