Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with federal funding guidelines. This Contract-to-Permanent position is ideal for a candidate with expertise in fund accounting operations and strong leadership skills. The role is based in Opelika, Alabama, and requires a highly detail-oriented individual committed to excellence in financial management.

Job Responsibility:

Manage the month-end close process to ensure financial records are accurate and timely
Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
Lead financial reporting efforts, including audits and performance reviews
Implement and maintain accounting procedures, including the use of tools like Blackline for reconciliation
Ensure compliance with federal funding requirements related to housing authority operations
Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute financial strategies
Supervise and mentor accounting staff to foster a high-performing team
Coordinate external audits and address any findings effectively
Monitor and improve internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and data integrity
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning.

Requirements:

Proven experience in managing month-end close processes and financial reporting
Proficiency with Blackline or similar financial reconciliation tools
Strong knowledge of financial statement audits and regulatory compliance
Exceptional leadership and communication skills
Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
CPA certification is preferred.
