The Director of Legal Services serves as a leader within the legal department, holding primary responsibility for ensuring the department operates professionally. This role oversees staff, manages key projects, allocates work, and maintains departmental documentation. The Director provides broad oversight of new service lines under the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), acting as a primary resource for the Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management Departments through professional services as assigned by the SVP-CLO. The position is responsible for developing and implementing both departmental and system-wide policies, ensuring all department staff are fully trained and able to fulfill their respective roles. Additionally, the Director conducts research and analytical tasks to support administrative, financial, and personnel functions, and collaborates with senior leaders across the organization to drive system initiatives. The role also serves as an administrative liaison within and outside the hospital and assists with contract preparation and tracking, claim management, department scheduling, and process improvement initiatives. Project management, fair market value (FMV) analysis, contracting, and other duties as assigned by the CLO are also part of this position’s responsibilities.
Job Responsibility:
Arranges appointments and meetings and coordinates necessary materials for meetings and agendas
Manages staff
interviews, hires, and trains
evaluates employee performance
deals with performance problems as appropriate
delegates work assignments effectively
Schedule appointments, maintains the central department calendar, and assigns new projects to the appropriate staff
Composes letters, contracts, and memoranda using knowledge of hospital policies or as directed by the SVP / CLO or Associate General Counsel(s)
Prepares special reports and presentations, including tables, graphics, and other materials using Microsoft Office Suite
Prepares and catalogs department-specific performance metrics and manages the organization of the Legal Department’s filing system
Manages department projects as assigned by the CLO
Collaborates closely with the CLO on Fair Market Value (FMB) issue related to compensation methods
Follows TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards
Promotes and supports the TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication among team members
Performs additional related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is required
Master’s degree or other advanced degree is preferred
Minimum of five (5) years of healthcare-related leadership experience are required
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Demonstrates strong professional writing skills with appropriate grammar
Exhibits independent problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills
Ability to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality
Ability to listen attentively and accurately interprets communication or instructions to take appropriate action
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Strong skills in business tools including PowerPoint, Excel, and AI tools as needed
