Job Responsibility:

  • Negotiating and drafting agreements relevant to a variety of aspects of the convenience store business
  • Working closely with management personnel to provide practical business solutions to day-to-day aspects of the business
  • Managing and coordinating with outside counsel as warranted
  • Providing education and training to other members of the legal department and various business teams
  • Identifying process for improvement with the legal department and the business and recommending and implementing solutions
  • Procurement/Contract management - Contract review, drafting and negotiation (globally, nationally, regionally and locally)
  • Produce and update templates for contracts and other legal documents and participate in negotiations where required
  • Regulatory – Competition (FTC), liquor, environmental, lottery, and compliance with local and state laws
  • Privacy – Ensure compliance with US privacy laws/regulations, ensure privacy standards are up to date, review and negotiate agreements with a privacy component
  • IT Contracts - review, draft and negotiate IT agreements
  • Marketing – Review and draft disclaimers, T&Cs for sales promotions, contests rules, advise the teams on laws and potential risks

Requirements:

  • A current State Bar license, in good standing
  • 10+ years of legal experience, preferably with a combination of corporate legal department and law firm experience
  • Experience and proficiency in the following legal areas: contract drafting and negotiations, retail and petroleum industry related issue, and counseling clients on business issues and transactions
  • Excellent writing and skills
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with legal and business partners worldwide
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail with a track record of managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and consistently meeting deadlines
  • A positive attitude
