Job Description:

As a member of Fire Life Safety & Security Design (FLS/SD) and Global Design (GD) Greater China, is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to maximize compliance of fire protection standards for Marriott Lodging Brands in Greater China including new builds, conversions/acquisitions, re-positionings, renovations and in operating hotels. Provide oversight and leadership to direct reports and consultants as they work toward the FLS mission of protecting guests, associates and assets by minimizing risk through standards, education and strategic partnerships focused on innovative life safety solutions. Promote and expand ongoing periodic inspections of operating hotels. Provide project management and life safety expertise through the design and construction of new and converting hotels and serve as a subject matter expert.

Job Responsibility:

  • Responsible for delivery of high-quality engineering support services to business units within Global Design, Lodging, Development, Operations, Brand, Lodging Engineering, Risk Management, Ownership Franchise Services and various other Marriott businesses for all projects in the region
  • Responsible for recruiting, coaching, training and developing consultants and/or staff to perform their defined duties
  • Make decisions for complex fire protection and life safety issues
  • Build relationships and provide leadership, expertise, and management throughout Greater China
  • Direct adaptations and modifications throughout design process and installation of systems
  • Discuss with supervisor and team members fire protection and life safety issues or problems that have high financial impact
  • Promote and support ongoing inspections in operating hotels in the region
  • Remain current with emerging technologies, regional codes and best methods for automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, life safety, and smoke control in the industry and specific to the region
  • Help develop owner preference and drive growth collaboratively with owners and Marriott internal stakeholders

Requirements:

  • BS, Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Professional Engineer or equivalent license preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience working in Greater China preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in fire protection engineering preferred
  • Fluent in Mandarin
  • Willingness to reside in Shanghai, China
  • Working knowledge of construction means and methods, facilities operations, and contracting
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Solid background in Greater China and NFPA codes and standards
  • Extensive writing skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop new processes to increase effectiveness and efficiencies
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Good working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  • High degree of initiative, personal responsibility, and integrity
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment
  • Willingness to share knowledge openly and assist others as necessary
  • Willingness to be a lifelong learner and curious about fire protection and hospitality industry
  • Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 70%)
