This is a highly visible role, for a resilient leader who can navigate the agility of a changing landscape, while partnering cross-functionally across the business to ensure EHS scalability as we grow. As a key member of our Legal and Compliance Team, the Director, EHS (US), will be responsible for building and sustaining an EHS culture that reduces risk, ensures regulatory compliance and supports operations at both of Altos’ California sites. This role will be responsible for managing and developing the onsite EHS Manager at the Bay Area CA site and for working seamlessly with the EHS (UK) team on global initiatives, systems and practices as needed. This role will act as the primary safety subject matter expert to protect employees and the environment. Additionally, this role will represent the Altos California sites on EHS matters to regulatory agencies, inspectors, partners, and project teams, working closely with other functions, consultants, and contractors as required.

Requirements:

  • Professional Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering or safety discipline
  • Minimum of (10) ten years of experience in EHS, with demonstrated experience in a leadership role
  • Experience with developing and implementing EHS programs, ideally for biotech (particularly in pharmaceutical/drug development) startup laboratory operations
  • Deep knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements relating to health, safety and environment, particularly those applicable to pharmaceutical company startup laboratory operations

Nice to have:

  • Preferred professional certifications include CPBCA (Certified Professional Biosafety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), and CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
  • Advanced degree a plus
  • Sets the standard on operational excellence
