Job Description

Director, Communications (Legal) - Capital One's Legal Department is seeking a Director of Communications to revolutionize how we connect with our Legal Department. We aren't looking for a traditional corporate messenger; we need a high-level communications content creator who views communication as an architectural framework designed to educate, inform, and mobilize a sophisticated audience of approximately 475 tenured attorneys and legal professionals. As the lead architect of Legal's communications, you will move beyond tactical and operational execution to build a comprehensive communication ecosystem that leverages both traditional and non-traditional channels to drive engagement in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Executive Platform Management: Direct the internal and external communication strategy for the General Counsel, including keynote speeches, industry panels, and department-wide town halls
  • Strategic Framework Development: Design and execute a multi-channel communication strategy and framework tailored to the unique needs of a professional legal audience of ~475 associates
  • Leadership Partnership: Serve as a strategic consultant to the Legal Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Chief of Staff and HR Business Partners to enable consistent messaging and alignment across all legal practice areas while maintaining local voices
  • Large-Scale Campaign Ownership: Own the end-to-end execution of department-wide and large targeted audience communications, ensuring 'action-request' messaging is clear, compelling, and effective
  • Innovative Content Ecosystems: Lead the creation of engaging communication channels, virtual/in-person experiences, and storytelling initiatives that deliver highly effective messaging outside of conventional internal platforms
  • Data-Driven Evolution: Establish rigorous metrics to evaluate communication performance, using data-backed insights to pivot strategies and messaging in real-time

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience
  • At least 7 years of experience in communications, marketing, a chief of staff role or a combination

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or Journalism
  • 7+ years of experience managing complex, large-scale projects and department-wide communications in a corporate environment
  • 5+ years of experience developing creative content and frameworks for internal messaging
  • Experience managing executive presence for C-Suite or Executive Committee members in external forums
  • Proven track record of implementing non-traditional communication channels (e.g., podcasting, interactive digital platforms, or gamification) within a professional services or legal context
