Job Description

Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. As Director of Care Operations Program Management, you will lead the team responsible for designing, prioritizing, and executing the strategic initiatives that power our care delivery at scale. In partnership with our Product and Frontline teams, you will set the vision, operating model, and standards for how products and programs are conceived, delivered, and measured—ensuring they drive meaningful impact for our members, care teams, and the business. This is a senior, highly cross-functional leadership role at the intersection of care delivery, product, analytics, and operations. You will manage and mentor Program Managers, while partnering closely with leaders across teams during a period of rapid growth and transformation. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker and people leader who can balance strategic direction with hands-on execution, influence senior stakeholders, and build scalable infrastructure in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This is not a traditional PMO or project-tracking role; it is focused on driving strategic, cross-functional operational change and ensuring initiatives translate into durable improvements in care delivery.

Job Responsibility

  • Define and own the roadmap and prioritization of strategic projects and programs in alignment with business goals
  • Translate product, operations, and clinical objectives into clear, executable initiatives with measurable outcomes
  • Anticipate future scaling needs and proactively build operational infrastructure to support growth
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Program Managers, fostering strong execution, accountability, and career growth
  • Establish best practices, tools, and operating rhythms for program and project management excellence across Care Operations
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, and data-driven decision-making
  • Provide oversight for high-impact, cross-functional initiatives spanning Coaching Operations, care models, new services, and operational pilots
  • Ensure programs and projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with clear success metrics
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs across the portfolio and drive resolution at the appropriate level
  • Serve as a partner to leaders in Coaching, Product, Design, Analytics, and Clinical teams to align priorities and execution
  • Act as an escalation point for complex stakeholder challenges, removing blockers and driving alignment
  • Communicate project/program status, outcomes, and insights to senior leadership with clarity and credibility
  • Champion process improvement efforts that enhance efficiency, quality, and member outcomes across Care Operations
  • Lead large-scale change management efforts related to care model evolution, product launches, and new operational capabilities
  • Ensure clear, consistent communication that cascades through all levels of the organization
  • Partner with Analytics to define KPIs and success metrics for Care Ops initiatives
  • Use data and insights to inform prioritization, investment decisions, and continuous optimization
  • Hold teams accountable for delivering measurable, sustained impact

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in program management, operations, or strategy within healthcare or a related industry, with leadership experience
  • Proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives at scale in a high-growth or startup environment
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing teams
  • Strong strategic thinking paired with operational rigor and attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience influencing senior leaders
  • Understanding of healthcare operations and care delivery systems, or comparable experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MHA, or similar) preferred
