Job Description:

Sunbelt Rentals operates over 1,500 branch locations across North America, serving construction, industrial, and specialty markets with a team of 25,000+ employees. The Director, Branch Standardization will lead the development and deployment of a comprehensive standardization program—encompassing 5S, visual management, layout optimization, and standard work—to ensure every Sunbelt branch delivers a consistent, safe, and efficient experience for customers and employees. This role will architect the “Sunbelt Standard” for branch setup and operations, driving operational excellence, safety, and scalability across all lines of business.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design and implement the Sunbelt Branch Standard Playbook, including layouts, zoning, signage, labeling, and floor markings for all branch types
  • Lead the rollout of a 5S program (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and integrate safety best practices across branches
  • Develop and deploy standard work processes for core branch activities (receiving, staging, picking, maintenance handoffs, inventory movement)
  • Establish and manage an audit and maturity model (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to measure and certify branch compliance with standards
  • Build and lead a team of 4–7 direct reports, including process engineers, 5S specialists, training leads, and audit analysts
  • Partner with Operations, Safety, Fleet, Facilities, and Supply Chain teams to ensure sustained adoption and continuous improvement
  • Oversee pilot programs, capture before/after metrics, and scale successful practices across regions
  • Develop training materials, toolkits, and microlearning assets to enable branch teams and champions
  • Publish dashboards and scorecards
  • deliver executive readouts and continuous improvement updates
  • Travel up to 50% to branch locations to support deployment, training, and audits

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field required
  • 8–12+ years of experience in multi-site operations, branch management, or service center environments (construction, industrial, retail, or related sectors)
  • Advanced degree or Lean/5S certification preferred
  • Experience managing teams and leading cross-functional projects in a multi-site environment
  • Proven track record leading 5S/Lean, visual management, and standard work initiatives across multiple locations
  • Experience with layout optimization, material flow design, and time & motion studies
  • Strong change management skills
  • ability to develop training programs and audit frameworks
  • Data-driven approach with experience implementing KPIs, dashboards, and maturity models
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and hands-on leadership
  • Willingness to travel 30–50% to branches during deployments
  • Preferred: Facilities/fixtures standardization, safety certifications, experience running kaizen events
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job
