Job Responsibility
Protects and advocates for the company’s interests with regard to current and proposed legislative and regulatory issues potentially impacting the insurance industry
Provides leadership in analyzing and responding to laws and regulations related to financial services, health insurance, health plans, taxes, trade and other issues as they arise
Partners with business units and advises senior executives on issues impacting the company
Develops non-partisan relationships with Members of Congress and their staff, trade associations, coalitions, and other political constituencies
Assists in the development of advocacy materials and legislative strategy, and execution of strategy
arranges strategic meetings with Congressional Members and key staff
Represents the company at coalition and trade association meetings, assuming leadership positions when appropriate
Prepares timely legislative memoranda, briefings, presentations, and quarterly reports for leadership
Partners with Vice President to train, coach and develop staff
Partners with the federal relations team to develop the Political Action Committee (PAC) budget
represents the company at fundraising events and retreats
organizes fundraisers to host key Members
Manages engagements with outside consultants and lobbyists as needed
Travel of less than or equal to 50% required
Performs other duties as required
Requirements
Ability to interpret, analyze and concisely translate impact of legislation and regulations to internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated success with influencing federal laws or regulations
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to health insurance
Strong writing and verbal communication skills and attention to detail, with an emphasis on the ability to be persuasive, clear and concise
Record of successfully partnering with business unit leaders
Actively works to maximize a positive team environment
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
Strong research and analytical background and skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office business suite of software
Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Business Administration or a related field
10 years of professional job-related work experience, 5 years management experience
5 years working in large organizations
In depth experience with regulatory affairs and public policy or a related business field
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Nice to have
Juris Doctor Degree or other advance degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Business Administration or a related field
Insurance industry experience
