Job Responsibility:

  • Design Strategy & Vision (20%): Apply a profound understanding of user interface patterns and behaviors to enhance user comprehension and optimize task performance
  • Utilize advanced visualizations and interactions to facilitate analytical thinking, especially with large datasets
  • Lead design critiques, evaluate interactions for inclusivity, and provide expert guidance to cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Facilitate engaging ideation sessions and collaborative design activities to foster innovation
  • Serve as the primary subject-matter expert for interaction design within the product design team
  • Web and Mobile Artifact Creation (60%): Inform design decisions by applying a comprehensive understanding of interaction design theory, visual design theory, research data, and industry best practices
  • Develop complex low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate design concepts effectively
  • Create sophisticated prototypes that provide precise delivery specifications for development teams
  • Present interaction design work with clarity and conviction to senior stakeholders, articulating design rationale and impact
  • Research and Testing (20%): Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design researchers and product stakeholders, to inform design decisions through research discussions, user testing, and data analysis
  • Lead and facilitate usability testing sessions to gather critical user feedback
  • Actively participate in or initiate research activities to deepen understanding of user needs and behaviors
  • Conduct comprehensive research into interaction design strategies within the financial services sector and perform competitive audits relevant to specific design or business objectives
  • Execute pattern, micro-interaction, and component design audits as needed to maintain consistency and quality

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • A compelling portfolio showcasing application design samples
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing web and native mobile applications
  • Strong technical understanding of mobile platforms
  • Strong understanding of design systems and their application
  • Demonstrated experience in an applied research setting, including integrating user research into product designs and design practices
  • Proven ability to articulate design strategy, rationale, and logic, clearly describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions
  • Expertise with industry-standard design, prototyping, and research tools such as Figma, Mural, UserTesting.com, Alida, and Maze

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing authenticated user experiences within financial services
  • MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field
  • Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of various research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase
  • An appreciation for the potential of ‘design thinking’ methodologies
  • Experience working within a large organization and an agile development environment
