This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Digital Collections team dedicated to increasing virtual access to collections at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The postholder will develop new workflows and methods for the digitisation of the microscope slide collection which is the largest of its kind worldwide. The collection incorporates around 150,000 slides from a diverse range of plant taxa. The slides include leaf surfaces and sections, pollen, wood, roots and chromosomes representing a unique resource for trait analysis and plant authentication.
Job Responsibility:
Develop new workflows and methods for the digitisation of the microscope slide collection
Increase virtual access to collections
Requirements:
Proven background in collections handling
Proven background in data entry
Proven background in digital imaging
Knowledge of Microscope Slide preparation (especially concerning plant micromorphology)
Previous experience working in a lab
Nice to have:
Interest in contributing to the next phase of digitisation
Enthusiasm for the ongoing development of digitisation workflows and procedures particularly in relation to the Microscope Slide collection
