Diagnostic Technician I - Bacteriology

• Process diagnostic specimens and utilize selective media preparations to enhance the isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria and to conduct antibacterial sensitivity testing
• Assist the laboratory supervisor and other collect faculty in ongoing research projects by isolating and selecting pure colonies of bacteria for identification and pathogenicity studies and refer to reference laboratories where appropriate
• Analyze information and translate it into a report for our clients

Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and two years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience.

• One year experience with diagnostic microbiology
• Experience in veterinary diagnostic setting preferred
• Ability to work well with people
• Ability to work weekends as needed
• Ability to know the differences in pathogenic vs. non-pathogenic bacterial growth
• Computer skills and ability to use a database software package
• Knowledge of handling pathogens
