Job Description:

The role of the Diagnostic Imaging Assistant involves assisting other radiology staff in preparing for radiology procedures including assisting and escorting of patients to and from the radiology department.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist and / escort patients to navigate safely around the department
  • Remain with patients who require custodial supervision
  • Assist with the safe keeping of patient’s personal property (collaborate with clinical staff in dealing with money, valuables and medications) and document as per hospital policy
  • Assist in keeping all areas clean and tidy
  • Move or assist in moving equipment and furniture as necessary
  • Cleaning and making up beds/trolleys when necessary
  • Stocking all areas
  • Attending to the hygiene of equipment
  • Assist in the disposal of clinical waste according to hospital policy
  • Assisting nursing and consultants with interventional procedures
  • Delivering specimens to the laboratory when necessary
  • Checking unit stock and listing those which need re-ordering
  • Maintaining orderly storage of supplies
  • Providing appropriate administrative support to assist the department upon completion of appropriate training
  • Reporting requests from patients and their families to the Radiology staff
  • Other duties which may be assigned by the Radiology Manager

Requirements:

  • 12 months experience in a similar role – desirable
  • Relevant QQI qualification – major award or partial completion
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate the initiative, drive and enthusiasm to carry out the role successfully
  • Ability to work professionally at all times when dealing with patients, staff and the public
  • Be able to multi-task and prioritise effectively
  • Flexibility is essential
  • Self-motivated, highly organised, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people

Nice to have:

12 months experience in a similar role – desirable
