The DFS Coordinator will oversee the Departure From Specification (DFS) process for submarines, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and quality assurance standards. The role requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in submarine maintenance and quality assurance, along with a thorough understanding of automated modernization systems. A BA/BS degree is preferred.
Job Responsibility:
Perform work that requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations of submarine repairs and refurbishments
Understand the unique requirements of nuclear powered vessels
Administer the DFS system for submarines
Establish and maintain systems of processing requests for DFSs
Review and evaluate DFS requests and obtain clarification of technical specifications from the military customer
Assist Ship's Force in preparing and processing DFSs as allowed by JFMM
Ensure submission of form 4790/2K to document DFS required action in CSMP
Maintain files of outstanding DFSs
Pursue clearing of DFSs
Advise and assist the Material/Quality Assurance Officer on matters pertaining to QA, SOC, FBW and SUBSAFE programs
Organize and implement a QA program to carry out the provisions of the JFMM and P-9290
Organize and implement a program for submarines to verify performance of required maintenance to sustain the material condition necessary to support URO to authorized operating depth
Ensure the ship's Underway Certification Continuity Report for Submarines, when required by JFMM, is received before the ship is underway
Review the Underway Certification Continuity Report for Submarines to ensure that it is in the proper format and includes all reports required
Following depot availability, perform 100% review of Controlled Work Packages before the vessel is allowed to operate
Assist in 3M inspections, fleet maintenance activity, Quality Assurance and material management assessments as requested
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of experience with the QA program and FMP management practices and a thorough knowledge of automated modernization information systems applicable to Departure from Specifications (DFS), electronic DFS (eDFS), ATIS, VSB and SHIPALTS and A&Is contractor and installation activities
Minimum 3 years of experience in submarine maintenance, IMA, or submarine repair
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Quality Assurance Inspector (QAI) or ship’s 3M Coordinator or monitoring the 3M or QA system while working in a Submarine Material Office (N4 Squadron, FMA, Shipyard or higher)
