The Development Engineering Intern will be part of the Clearway Development Engineering Team focusing on Wind development and project engineering and will report to the Development Engineering Manager. The Development Engineering Team supports Clearway Energy’s pipeline across Photovoltaic, Battery Energy Storage, and Wind from project conception until construction. This position is part of the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning on June 1, 2026. Throughout this summer internship program, you’ll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional experience. At Clearway, you’ll gain access to an innovative and fast-paced work environment. You’ll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting the development of intermediate to advanced stage development utility scale Wind projects
Learn how to scope and review standard due diligence deliverables required to finalize scope, project costs, schedule, energy output, and risks
Review preliminary Engineering deliverables to ensure the design meets contractual, cost, and performance requirements
Write, edit and/or review technical scope of work documents, specifications, procedures, site reports, feasibility studies, proposals, presentations, etc
Help review and negotiate technical aspects of EPC contracts, interconnect agreements, etc
Coordinate with Development team and external consultants to deliver preliminary design, site plans and equipment layouts, system cost estimates, EPC contract technical exhibits, etc
Contribute to CEG’s technology roadmap, software tools, engineering capability and project management processes
Conduct site specific analysis to determine environmental constraints and buildable area available for project development
Conduct layout analysis in Geographic Information System (GIS) platforms like Google Earth, and ArcGIS
Supporting or managing various initiatives such as analyzing and implementing the use of professional software and tools like AI for Site Diligence Scope of Work Creation, Site Diligence Report Reviews, Cost Estimating Tool Integration, Team Reporting, Resource Forecasting, Energy Model Reviews
Supporting development or updates to Clearway’s wind cost estimating tool
Supporting updates or improvements to a Clearway Energy cost estimate database tool
Improving our process for site Optimization to increase project margin across our platform
Working with our scope of work and potentially our EPC partners to develop a list of value engineering items
Assist in technology and equipment assessments to report internally on suppliers, technology, and product viability
Improve and manage engineering dashboards and reports used to report project status to Engineering Leadership
Requirements:
Current juniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or Management in Engineering or Construction
Basic understanding of wind energy project scope, key equipment, and fundamental awareness of core engineering principles associated with solar and stationary storage projects
Advanced MS Office and Excel skills
Ability to work well in a collaborative environment that emphasizes attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and working together to achieve company-wide objectives
Intellectual curiosity and an interest in renewable energy
Strong interpersonal skills
Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable
Ability to work independently, multitask and take ownership over projects and assignments
Nice to have:
Understanding of wind project design, and optimization tradeoffs
Knowledge of relevant US and IEC equipment standards, codes, and construction practices
Experience using AI language models to automate workflows and tasks
