Placement will serve with the Tongass National Forest, Ketchikan Misty Fjords Ranger District to help maintain recreation sites and trails. The placement will work with Forest Service staff on various projects throughout the district.
Job Responsibility:
Help maintain recreation sites and trails
Work on various projects throughout the district
Perform tasks at the Ward Lake Recreation Area (trash removal, cleaning outhouses, sweeping, pressure washing, painting, splitting and delivery of firewood, educating public on rules and etiquette, support of campground hosts, brush removal, culvert maintenance, digging, raking, fencing, bridge building, construction, and carpentry projects)
Maintain trails (clearing brush, digging drainage ditches, constructing tread, constructing and/or repairing bridges, working around heavy equipment)
Assist the Cabin Crew on work assignments at remote public-use cabins (solid waste removal, trash removal, cleaning outhouses, digging a new outhouse hole, cleaning cabins, sanding and painting, brush removal and landscaping, sweeping, pressure washing, construction and carpentry, patching boats, and assorted other maintenance tasks)
Requirements:
Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or a veteran age 35 or younger
Must be a citizen or national of the United States or a lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
Must be prepared to fly, boat, drive, and hike to work sites regularly
Must be able to work outdoors daily in a cool, wet environment
Must be able to perform daily hiking, lifting, and carrying of heavy loads
Must have flexibility to adapt to various situations
Must prioritize safety
Must read and sign a Job Hazard Analysis for each activity
Must work with a crew leader on complex projects and independently on basic tasks
Must be authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority
