We have an exciting opportunity for an entry level engineer interested in a career in the Utility industry as a Designer. The purpose of the Distribution Designer 1 position is to apply technical skills to design safe, cost effective and reliable distribution power facilities for residential and commercial facilities.
Job Responsibility
Prepare project and job packages that include material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings and construction drawings for various installations of electrical facilities in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability
Read and interpret blueprints, maps, change orders, improvement plans, construction specifications, procedure manuals, operational procedures, etc.
Perform drafting work and assist in the preparation of designs, plans and reports
Make accurate engineering calculations
Organize and analyze field data and prepare accurate and detailed reports and records
Learn, practice, and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time
Apply various codes, requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures to all assigned work
Use various design software and work management tools
Evaluate distribution equipment such as transformers and fusing
Follow utility construction practices on public right of way (ROW) and private land
Regularly communicate job status to assure client expectations and deliverable dates are met
Coordinate with construction personnel and clients to resolve any project issues
Develop relationships with key internal and external customers while supporting both company and client’s business goals and expectations while representing themselves both positively and professionally
Maintain files and records in an organized manner
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or GIS background, or associates in drafting
Strong communication skills
Reliable Transportation for use on the rare occasion a visit to a site may be required to take pictures and measurements.
