We are looking for a high-caliber Design Manager to lead the engineering delivery for one of our most significant large-scale substation projects. This isn't just about overseeing drawings; it's about managing the technical heartbeat of a critical infrastructure asset. You will be the bridge between complex electrical engineering, civil constraints, and client expectations. As the Design Manager, you will take full ownership of the design lifecycle-from initial concept and FEED through to detailed design and construction support. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure that technical solutions are safe, buildable, and fully integrated.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee Primary and Secondary electrical design, ensuring integration with civil and structural elements
Resolve technical clashes between HV equipment, protection systems, and site infrastructure
Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, DNOs/TSOs, and specialist subcontractors
Drive Safety by Design principles, ensuring all outputs meet Scottish Power standards and CDM regulations
Ensure design milestones are met to allow for the procurement of long-lead items (Transformers, GIS, etc.)
Requirements:
A degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered status preferred)
Proven track record managing design for large-scale substations (typically 132kV, 275kV, or 400kV)
Familiarity with BIM workflows and Common Data Environments (CDE)
The ability to challenge a design choice while maintaining strong relationships with the engineering team
