Job Description:

As an Experienced Design Estimator, you will be responsible for the design and pricing of electricity network infrastructure projects across both HV and LV systems. You’ll play a key role in ensuring designs are fit for purpose, meet industry and customer standards, and are delivered efficiently and accurately. You'll work closely with internal teams, customers, and external stakeholders to coordinate designs, secure consents, and support project delivery from concept through to completion.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design and pricing of electricity network infrastructure projects across both HV and LV systems
  • Designing and pricing HV and LV electricity network infrastructure, mainly focusing on overhead design works
  • Preparing accurate estimates and quotations
  • Coordinating with internal teams and external service providers
  • Obtaining necessary consents and approvals to support project delivery
  • Ensuring all designs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and project scopes
  • Developing efficient methodologies to optimise resources and minimise disruption
  • Maintaining strong relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • Supporting tender preparation
  • Contributing to successful project outcomes through effective communication, problem-solving, and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards

Requirements:

  • Strong technical knowledge in Overhead line construction/design and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to scope and price projects accurately
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • A collaborative team player with a proactive, can-do attitude
  • Experience using line design software (Neara or Catan/COLDNet) would be an advantage
  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 4), or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in electricity distribution
  • Strong experience in HV and LV network design and pricing (subdivisions and underground networks)
  • Understanding of NZ electricity industry standards and safety requirements
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence

Nice to have:

  • Experience using line design software (Neara or Catan/COLDNet)
  • Knowledge of substation design

  • Manage estimation process to include interfacing with multiple representatives of sales, management, and customer teams
  • Analyze blueprints, construction drawings, and technical/functional design specifications to prepare compliant solutions
  • Research emerging technologies in support of security integration solutions
  • Interface with product and distribution partners to obtain systems, device, and equipment pricing during estimating process
  • Support the sales team by participating in technical discussions and meetings with customers and/or product partners
  • Support the Sales Team in customer-facing ROI (Return on Investment) discussions and technical presentations
  • Understanding construction divisions as they relate to electronics safety and security for RFP responses.
  • Maintain quality assurance by following organization and department standards
