Job Responsibility:
Development of military vehicle sub-systems that, in parallel, satisfy the needs of efficient and effective manufacture / assembly and ongoing supportability, while not compromising in terms of robustness and reliability
Generating design concepts for new and next generation products, including, CAD, Material selection, defining processing parameters, tooling, and drafting to the department’s standards and procedures
Interact with production and quality teams to investigate and obtain any necessary corrective action data
Support other areas of product design engineering, as required
Technical support to the Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams for proposed designs
Undertake problem solving of design and product issues to resolve functional issues as they arise throughout the development and service life cycle
Support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) efforts to ensure a sustainable support solution
Support Operations to ensure that components and assemblies can be manufactured effectively and efficiently
Recognise the need for engineering change and raise engineering change requests as appropriate
Successful delivery of concept designs and launch of new products, on time, to cost and on schedule
Support first off and prototype builds
Creation, checking and reviewing of CAD concepts and detailed designs
Requirements:
Degree or equivalent (i.e. diploma or experience) in an appropriate Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
Previous experience working on design and development projects, inception to launch, within an engineer to order technical environment
2-6 years of design experience using 3D CAD software, preferably PTC CREO 6.0 or higher
Familiar with the use of PLM software, preferably Windchill 10.1 or higher
Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards, ideally to automotive / defence requirements
Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level and contribute to team projects
Proficient user of MS office software
Familiar with configuration control and change management processes
Familiar with the compilation of Design FMEA’s
Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Ability to obtain security clearance to Secret, Level II
Experience of using AI tools or demonstrates a willingness to learn and apply AI in role
Nice to have:
Licensed Professional Engineer
Experienced in using PTC Creo and Windchill PDM
Tooling design & design for manufacturability
Experience using FEA software
Experience in customer-facing roles
