Celeros Flow Technology LLC has an immediate opening for a Design Engineer to provide engineering services required to support Copes-Vulcan brand control valves in safety-related applications for the nuclear power industry at our Houston, TX facility. The position will be primarily focused on supporting the valves program as production is scaled and expanded in the Houston facility. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time to visit customer sites, support product testing, training, etc.
Job Responsibility:
Perform engineering calculations, design, and analysis as required to ensure and maintain structural and mechanical integrity of new and existing products
Write engineering specifications, procedures and reports as required
Update existing assembly and manufacturing procedures as required
Participate in Technical Evaluations of safety related products to determine critical characteristics to be used in commercial grade dedication as required by nuclear power industry codes and regulations
Create new and revise existing commercial grade dedication instructions
Review customer specifications and inquiries to evaluate the compliance of existing designs and resolve any conflicts or ambiguities
Communicate effectively with project management and customers to get clarification and understanding of order requirements if necessary
Review existing bills of materials and drawings and check against quotation and purchase order documents to ensure accuracy and adequacy of the design and documentation
Check and/or approve drawings, bills of material, specifications and reports as required
Maintain up to date knowledge of codes and standards such as ASME B16.34, ASME B&PV Code Sections I, II, III and VIII, NQA-1, 10 CFR Part 21, etc
Provide dispositions of in-process product nonconformances
Review and approve requests for part or material substitutions
Contribute to development and execution of project plans with assistance from Senior/Principal Engineers and Project Management
Manage all tasks within scope of responsibility to meet desired deadlines and outcomes
Work with other departments frequently to ensure projects are meeting established goals
Assist in design and development of test equipment as required to meet product testing requirements
May provide technical follow-up after project release, including field assistance and drafting work instructions for specific field repairs if necessary
Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
Evaluate engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses
Be proficient in computer assisted engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Inventor, MathCad, Office, etc.) and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks
Should be familiar with drafting standards and practices including GD&T and apply them to drawing creation or mark-up
Contributes to the efficient running of the Design and Development process
Ensures timely and commercially effective completion of assigned projects to meet customer requirements
Coordinates and cooperates with other departments to facilitate communications and operations within the company
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Minimum of 2 or more years of experience in a mechanical product design role, preferably in either the valve product or nuclear power industry
Must have experience in the valve industry and/or nuclear industry
Must have the ability to apply mathematical concepts and operations to develop and check design validity
Must have the ability to design and generate creative mechanical solutions

Must be able to demonstrate attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to read and understand blueprints

Must be able to perform the principal duties and responsibilities of the position and be able to work responsibly without close supervision individually and collaborate in a team environment
Must be able to interpret and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently
Nice to have:
Knowledge of valve types, including control valves, pyrotechnic valves, valve design, valve applications, valve trim design, actuation (manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, pyrotechnic and electric), valve accessories (positioners, etc.), hydrostatic testing, and seat leakage testing
Knowledge of explosives and propellant applications
Prior experience with the nuclear power industry, including ASME BPVC Section III pressure vessels, safety related equipment and commercial grade dedication
Prior experience working within a 10CFR Part 50 Appendix B Quality program
Experience working within an ERP system, preferably SAP
Experience 3D modelling and drafting in Inventor
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA)
Familiarity with or willing to learn general manufacturing processes and materials, including castings fabrication, forgings, stamping, 3D printing, machining, EDM, heat treating, tempering, plating, non-destructive testing methods (RT, UT, MP, LP hardness, and PMI)
