Our client, a Sleepwear resource based in Manhattan, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Design Director. Will oversee several designers and play a critical role in driving innovation, trend leadership, and overall product excellence within the category. Must have experience working on a successful program/label in the off-price market and understand the evolving market and consumer. Our client is seeking someone who can elevate product, process, and team performance and serve as a strategic thinker with a strong eye for design and detail as well as a collaborative partner who can work cross-functionally and influence at all levels. This is an in-office role based in Midtown NYC.
Job Responsibility:
Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of designers, fostering creativity, accountability, and professional growth
Set the creative direction for the sleepwear division, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and market trends
Drive trend research and product innovation, translating insights into commercially successful designs
Oversee the end-to-end design process from concept through production
Partner closely with merchandising, sales, and production teams to ensure cohesive product development
Maintain strong relationships with overseas factories and vendors, with a deep understanding of production capabilities and efficiencies
Ensure product meets quality, cost, and timeline expectations
Continuously evaluate and elevate design standards, construction, and fabrications
Identify opportunities for growth within the sleepwear category, including new product concepts and assortments
Requirements:
8-12+ years of category experience in sleepwear (or intimate apparel) design with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role in sleepwear
Proven experience managing and developing design teams
Strong knowledge of sleepwear trends, fabrications, and construction
Extensive experience working with overseas factories and understanding of production processes
Ability to balance creativity with commercial viability
Strong organizational and communication skills
Collaborative leadership style with the ability to motivate and inspire teams
Experience working with off-price retailers such as TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Burlington, Ross, etc.
