Job Responsibility:
Prepares plan drawings and details for highway construction projects utilizing computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software
Learns to use the current WYDOT CADD software, procedures, and basic drafting requirements to produce engineering drawings and details with extensive formal and on-the-job training
Prints and reproduces plan drawings for distribution and peer review
Researches as-constructed plans
Maintains a filing system within the work area for design projects
Incorporates quantity summary work as required to help designers meet project deadlines
Participates in training on various computer software related to performing duties
Maintains familiarity with department policies and procedures relative to drafting and engineering plan development and other areas in general
Identifies and resolves problems by gathering or reviewing information gathered by others, analyzing and resolving problems, or recommending the solutions to designers and supervisors
Requirements:
High School Diploma
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in the Transportation occupational group)
OR 1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in the Transportation occupational group) as an Education & Experience Substitution
Knowledge of basic math, reading, and writing
Knowledge of communication and time management
Knowledge of applying drafting skills in developing engineering detail sheet(s)
Ability to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods
May work in adverse environmental conditions
May work in close proximity to high-speed traffic
Full-time enrollment in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Wyoming by the date of hire
Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25
Work year-round, including summers, for at least 80 hours in the calendar month
Nice to have:
Preference may be given to those students with a minimum of 30 semester hours in the field of engineering
