Job Description:

Are you a hands-on creator looking for a better work-life balance? Randstad Education is seeking a versatile D&T Technician / Instructor for a vibrant secondary academy in Romford. This is a unique four-day-a-week role, perfect for a skilled professional who enjoys the classroom and the workshop but wants their Fridays back. Starting as a temporary member of staff after the May half-term, there is a clear pathway to a permanent contract starting in September 2026 for the right candidate.

Job Responsibility:

  • Preparing materials (wood, metal, plastics) and maintaining machinery such as bandsaws, sanders, and CAD/CAM equipment
  • Taking the lead on specific D&T lessons, guiding students through practical projects and theory
  • Maintaining strict safety standards and conducting routine risk assessments
  • Working closely with the D&T faculty to manage resources and prepare for GCSE/BTEC practical assessments

Requirements:

  • Experience in a school workshop or similar role
  • Proficiency in using standard workshop machinery
  • Knowledge of 3D printing or laser cutting is a plus
  • Confidence in leading a classroom and demonstrating practical skills
  • Ability to commit to a consistent Monday to Thursday schedule
