Job Description:

Deputy Registrar - fixed term/secondment opportunity for 6 months. Part time role based at Portsmouth Register Office. Working in the Portsmouth Register Office you will be registering births, deaths, stillbirths, civil partnerships, and marriages. The role involves dealing with the public at key moments in their lives.

Job Responsibility:

  • Registering births, deaths, stillbirths, civil partnerships, and marriages
  • Preparing certificates for members of the public
  • Making appointments for people to come to the office to register births, deaths, stillbirths and to give notice of marriages and civil partnerships
  • Taking notices of marriage and civil partnership
  • Working contractual overtime on Saturdays to cover ceremonies
  • Occasional additional weekend work on Sundays and Bank Holidays to cover ceremony duties (voluntary)
  • Training as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar to conduct marriage/civil partnership ceremonies and private citizenship ceremonies

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a front-line customer service role
  • Experience within the registration service is desirable
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Neat handwriting
  • Patience, tact, and empathy
  • Ability to understand and apply complex legislation
  • Ability to work on your own with limited supervision
  • Strong organisational, communication and IT skills
  • Confident, positive and energetic
  • Right to Work in the UK
