We’re looking for a dynamic Deputy News Editor who can build on the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star's online growth, while also ensuring our thousands of print readers get the rich storytelling they deserve in their daily paper. You’ll work with a team of journalists in our newsroom in Ipswich, Suffolk, to get the most out of their stories.
Job Responsibility:
Grow the audience on the brands’ websites
drive digital subscriptions
help reporters cater to our loyal audience
ensure our newsletters are of a high standard
work alongside the rest of the newsdesk editors, motivating, mentoring and developing the reporting team
help run the day-to-day news agenda, planning, investigations and campaigns
lead the content mix for the two printed daily newspapers
when other editors are away, step up and fulfil those duties
Requirements:
Creative
digitally savvy
understands the needs of a modern newsroom
wants to help deliver the best stories to our audience
already working on a news desk or be experienced senior reporters looking for the next step up
excellent knowledge of media law
comfortable dealing with members of the public
may often write their own articles as well
able to inspire a team
drive our news agenda
deputise for other editors when they are off
thrive working under pressure – including reacting to breaking news
know exactly what makes a story
be creative and full of ideas
write articles when needed
create the right mix of content, for the right time of day and platform – online and in print
be able to process and edit copy for both print and online
place copy on pages for the newspapers
