Compass Associates is excited to be collaborating alongside one of the UK’s leading providers of high-quality Specialist Education Children’s Care. Their services support children with a variety of emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties, utilising a therapeutic approach rooted to create a safe and nurturing environment. Together, we are looking for the right Deputy Headteacher to join their established Specialist SEMH School in Shrewsbury.

Job Responsibility

  • Work closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team to support the day-to-day running of the school
  • Lead on key areas such as quality of education, behaviour, or inclusion
  • Drive high standards in teaching, learning, and pupil outcomes
  • Contribute to whole school development
  • Help embed a consistent, positive culture across the staff team

Requirements

  • Must hold QTS and at least 3 years’ recent relevant teaching experience
  • Management experience required with SEMH settings
  • NPQH or MEd or willingness to work towards
  • Secondary training preferred
  • Significant experience supporting learners with SEMH needs, preferably in a trauma-informed environment
  • Is a confident and supportive leader, able to motivate and develop others
  • Demonstrates resilience, adaptability, and a solution-focused mindset
  • Strategic school leader with a collaborative, fun and trust-building leadership style

Nice to have

  • Leadership within a SEND or specialist school setting
  • NPQH or MEd or willingness to work towards
  • Secondary training preferred

  • In the Headteacher's absence, be the designated Headteacher for the school
  • Co-ordinate and communicate with a range of education staff, care support teams, therapists, service development practitioners and external stakeholders, to ensure that children are engaged in learning and meeting their potential
