Job Description

We are seeking a committed, resilient and highly motivated Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL) to join our Alternative Provision setting supporting young people who require additional educational, emotional and behavioural support. This is a full-time position, initially offered on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.

Job Responsibility

  • Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and senior leadership team
  • Play a key role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
  • Support vulnerable young people
  • Liaise with external agencies
  • Maintain safeguarding records
  • Contribute to creating a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive

Requirements

  • Previous safeguarding experience within an educational, social care, youth work or alternative provision setting
  • Strong understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance
  • Experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Ability to identify safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate reporting procedures
  • Experience working with vulnerable, disengaged or at-risk young people
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively with parents, carers, schools, local authorities and external agencies
  • Strong record-keeping, report-writing and organisational skills
  • Calm, professional and resilient approach when managing challenging situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgement
  • Compassionate and approachable
  • Resilient and emotionally intelligent
  • Able to build trust and positive relationships with young people
  • Proactive and solution-focused
  • Committed to safeguarding and improving outcomes for children and young people

Nice to have

  • Deputy DSL or DSL training
  • Experience using safeguarding systems such as CPOMS

  • Understanding of attendance, behaviour and pastoral support strategies
