Under the general direction of leadership, completes a 12-month on-the-job dental assistant training program which consists of classroom learning, observation and hands-on clinical training within the department of hire.
Job Responsibility:
Learns and performs chair side assistance to dentists and other providers, maintain a sterile environment and aseptic technique, and utilize “four-handed” techniques
Retracts the patient’s cheek or tongue, operates oral vacuum evacuating equipment and applies water and air to the field of operation
Anticipates day-to-day needs in the clinical environment, including armamentarium, nitrogen tank, and other specific equipment, material and supply needs for patient and provider to ensure smooth operations and patient safety
Reviews patient record to consider and prepare for the complexity of each visit and/or procedure and the time frame required so patient schedule may be maintained or modified as needed
Sets up and uses specialized equipment for documentation of vital signs, including pulse oximetry during nitrous oxide or IV sedation cases. Cleans and maintains equipment
Learns and adopts necessary skills to take intra-oral, extra-oral, and panorex radiographs. Anticipate diagnostic needs. Develops and mounts radiographs
Notifies of patient arrival and escort patients through the clinic
Provides special assistance for non-ambulatory patients
Follows standard clinical safety protocol for Patient Identification Verification
Learns and adopts necessary skills to perform instrument sterilization
Enters patient data into the electronic medical record
Reviews discharge instructions with patient as prepared by provider
Learns and adopts necessary skills to perform basic dental laboratory procedures such as pouring models for dentures, partials, and crown models, making bite guards or setting up fluoride trays for preventive therapy

Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent GED preferred
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate and interact well with patients, providers and staff required
