Barnsley Council have an exciting opportunity for a Democratic Services Team Leader to join the team based in Barnsley. You will join us on a full-time, fixed-term contract until 21/6/27. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £47,181 - £50,269 per annum. About the post: Barnsley Council is offering a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in Barnsley. If you care about democracy and would like to work with the public, political parties, and Councillors to make democracy happen in Barnsley, then this is your opportunity. Due to maternity leave for around 12 months, we are to recruit someone who has a keen knowledge and interest in the democratic processes, who can provide leadership in maintaining and improving the Council’s decision-making processes. As Team Leader you will support formal processes for making decisions within the Council, including by Cabinet, and manage a team of Democratic Services Officers who provide effective advice and support to meetings of the Council such as Planning Regulatory Board, Licensing Regulatory Board and the six Area Councils. In addition, you will also provide leadership to the team to ensure appropriate organisation of and decision making in hearings such as School Admission Appeals, Independent Review Panels for School Exclusions and a number of Charity Boards. Based in Law, Democratic and Member Services, the role is varied, working with officers from across the Council, is fundamental to ensuring good governance within the Council. The successful applicant will have experience in democratic processes, exceptional leadership skills, good IT skills, ability to form relationships with a wide range of people, and a drive to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective democratic processes within the Council.
