The democracy advisor will provide integral support to the governance and legal manager and wider team by supporting election and meeting processes, progressing governance work and providing governance advice on a range of topics. They will ensure legislative requirements are understood and followed, ultimately advancing the democratic process.
Job Responsibility:
provide advice and information on democratic processes and governance requirements
complete a range of governance projects including reviews of key governance documents
prepare reports for elected members, attend meetings, take minutes and record decisions where required
ensure services delivered within the department are consistent and follow best practice and any new requirements
monitor and update Council’s delegations to committees, community boards and/or staff
support triennial local government election and representation review processes
Requirements:
be able to research, understand and apply legislation
be highly professional and able to demonstrate political acumen
be comfortable communicating at all levels of Council, with excellent presentation and written skills
