Job Description

The Delivery Director for Defence will lead complex technology portfolios, ensuring exceptional service delivery and client satisfaction. This role requires advanced stakeholder management, negotiation skills, and familiarity with delivery methodologies such as Agile and MSP. A strong understanding of public sector procurement and Defence security considerations is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing large-scale projects and teams, with a focus on continuous improvement and performance management.

Job Responsibility

  • Leading large-scale, complex, technology portfolios (£30M+) for Defence clients
  • Building and maintaining excellent senior client relationships - achieving strong customer satisfaction and feedback
  • Consistently delivering exceptional service that meets or exceeds the expectations of our customer and the business, supported by a ‘no surprises’ approach
  • Operating across the full delivery lifecycle, including proactive engagement through the pre-sales and sales cycle to ensure that proposals are validated from a delivery perspective and ensuring strong delivery ‘preparedness’
  • Leading cross-discipline teams across multiple discrete projects and programmes, including the implementation of structured development and performance management for the team such as objective setting, regular reviews, feedback and training
  • Ensuring that established project governance and assurance mechanisms are applied and that accurate reporting and data on programme performance is provided to all relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborating closely with Client Partners and senior leadership to drive business growth
  • Proactively managing risks, issues and dependencies, controlling change, quality and configuration
  • Implementing appropriate KPIs and monitoring/controlling performance to achieve them
  • Programme budgetary control and contract financial performance management
  • Identification and procurement of suitably qualified and experienced resources in collaboration with internal Service Lines and Practices

Requirements

  • A track record of successfully leading complex programmes and portfolios for Defence clients, with values exceeding £30m and clients at SCS1
  • Leading distributed, virtual, teams and ensuring effective collaboration with other, 3rd party, client-side teams
  • Advanced stakeholder management, communication, negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Highly developed ability to manage multiple project risks dealing with uncertainty, whilst being proactive and forward looking
  • Familiarity with delivery methodologies such as Agile, Scaled Agile and MSP
  • Strong commercial acumen including strong cost modelling skills and experience with a range of contracting methods
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement and Defence security considerations
  • Confident working with central government processes and methods, including the GDS Service Standard and Technical Code of Practice
