Job Description

Adtalem Global Education (“Adtalem”) is seeking an accomplished, visionary dean to lead Ross University School of Medicine (“RUSM” or “Ross Med”). As the U.S. and countries worldwide continue to grapple with healthcare delivery and the size and composition of the physician workforce, this is a rare opportunity for an academic leader to strengthen and grow an international medical school that significantly contributes to the nation’s physician workforce. The Dean of Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) will be the senior academic leader, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction to ensure educational excellence and student success. Reporting directly to the President of Adtalem Medical and Veterinary (MedVet), the Dean will focus on all aspects of medical education, including curriculum development, faculty excellence, and student outcomes. This position will be based on the Bridgetown, Barbados campus, fostering a strong connection with the academic community, students, and local stakeholders.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to ensure educational excellence and student success
  • Focus on all aspects of medical education, including curriculum development, faculty excellence, and student outcomes
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for academic excellence at RUSM
  • Lead efforts to enhance RUSM’s academic reputation and impact through program innovation, faculty development, and continuous improvement in student success
  • Ensure high medical education and clinical training standards
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of RUSM’s medical curriculum
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to integrate new teaching methods, technologies, and assessments
  • Lead initiatives to assess and enhance the effectiveness of the curriculum
  • Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and high-performing faculty
  • Oversee faculty evaluation and development processes
  • Champion faculty collaboration and engagement in research, clinical education, and interdisciplinary initiatives
  • Ensure that RUSM consistently achieves high student outcomes
  • Lead initiatives to support student success
  • Collaborate with the COO and student services teams to address student needs
  • Serve as RUSM’s academic representative to external stakeholders
  • Foster strong relationships with faculty, students and staff
  • Engage with the local community and government in Barbados
  • Work closely with the leadership of Adtalem, AUC and the COO to align academic initiatives with operational priorities
  • Participate in strategic planning and execution within the MedVet segment
  • Leverage opportunities for collaboration within the Adtalem network

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent terminal medical degree
  • Academic credentials qualifying for the rank of full professor
  • Active medical license recognized in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, or Canada preferred
  • Increasingly responsible leadership experience in medical education
  • Significant responsibility in an academic administrative role such as associate dean or campus dean
  • Proven track record in curriculum development, accreditation processes, and strategic planning
  • Experience driving academic outcomes, including student performance metrics and faculty development
  • Strong academic leadership skills that inspire and engage faculty, staff, and students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build partnerships and foster collaboration
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvement in academic programs
