Job Description

As a Day Fitter at Arriva , you will be responsible for the routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of our fleet of buses to ensure their safe and reliable operation throughout the day.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance checks and inspections on buses, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, electrical systems, and bodywork
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults efficiently and effectively
  • Conduct roadside assistance and recovery when required, ensuring minimal disruption to services
  • Carry out routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication
  • Identify and report any major defects or persistent issues to the workshop supervisor
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians and operational staff to ensure fleet availability
  • Keep the workshop and work areas clean, tidy, and organized

Requirements

  • A recognized apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience as a Fitter or Mechanic, preferably within a commercial vehicle or bus environment
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and workshop tools
  • A full, clean UK Driving Licence is essential
  • a PCV (Category D) licence is highly desirable, or willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, which may include weekends and public holidays, as required by operational needs
