As a Day Fitter at Arriva, you will be responsible for the routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of our fleet of buses to ensure their safe and reliable operation throughout the day.
Job Responsibility:
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance checks and inspections on buses, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, electrical systems, and bodywork
Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults efficiently and effectively
Conduct roadside assistance and recovery when required, ensuring minimal disruption to services
Carry out routine servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication
Identify and report any major defects or persistent issues to the workshop supervisor
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed
Adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards
Work collaboratively with other technicians and operational staff to ensure fleet availability
Keep the workshop and work areas clean, tidy, and organized
Requirements:
A recognized apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
Proven experience as a Fitter or Mechanic, preferably within a commercial vehicle or bus environment
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and workshop tools
A full, clean UK Driving Licence is essential
a PCV (Category D) licence is highly desirable, or willingness to obtain one
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
Flexibility to work various shifts, which may include weekends and public holidays, as required by operational needs
