The Data Modeler will design enterprise-grade data models for a leading Utilities client, focusing on modernizing data platforms and improving data quality. The role requires strong experience in data modeling tools and SQL, along with collaboration skills to engage with stakeholders effectively. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field is required. We are undertaking a large scale transformation initiative for a leading Utilities client, focused on modernizing data platforms, improving data quality, and enabling advanced analytics and operational insights. The Data Modeler will play a key role in designing enterprise-grade data models that support business processes across meter-to-cash, asset management, work management, outage management, and geospatial data.
Job Responsibility:
Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data platforms, data warehouses, and data lakes
Develop models aligned with industry standards, utilities data structures, and organizational data strategy
Ensure data models support scalability, performance, and future analytics requirements
Work closely with data architects to define data integration and data flow design across systems
Work with business SMEs to understand domain-specific processes such as: Metering & Billing, Customer Information Systems (CIS), Distribution/Transmission Operations, Asset & Work Management, Outage Management Systems (OMS)
Translate domain-driven requirements into accurate and optimized data models
Collaborate with business analysts, solution architects, ETL engineers, and application teams
Ensure alignment between business requirements and data modeling deliverables
Participate in workshops, requirement clarifications, and design walkthroughs
Define data standards, naming conventions, and modeling best practices
Ensure data quality, consistency, lineage, and documentation for all models
Support metadata management and data governance initiatives
Requirements:
Strong experience in data modeling tools such as ERWin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, or similar
Expertise in SQL, relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
Experience designing models for cloud data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake, or AWS Redshift
Understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines, data integration techniques, and structured/unstructured data
Knowledge of data warehousing methodologies (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault is a plus)
Familiarity with modeling for API-based systems, event-driven systems, and NoSQL databases is an advantage
Exposure to CIS, Billing, Metering, Asset Management, or Work/Field Management systems
Understanding of asset hierarchies, network topology, geospatial data (GIS), and meter data
Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
Ability to work in an agile, fast-paced transformation environment
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related fields
Nice to have:
Experience with MDM (Master Data Management) tools
Knowledge of Itron, Oracle Utilities, SAP IS-U, Maximo, or other utility platforms
Prior experience in large data modernization or digital transformation programs
