The Data Manager (Assessment) is responsible for the effective management, analysis, and reporting of student assessment data across the school. The role ensures that data is accurate, timely, secure, and meaningful, enabling senior leaders, governors, and staff to make informed decisions that raise standards and improve outcomes for students. This is a key post within a busy school environment, working closely with senior leadership, the data team, and the examinations team.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain and develop assessment and data management systems
Oversee collection, validation, storage, and maintenance of assessment data
Manage configuration of assessment frameworks, mark sheets, and reporting structures
Ensure accurate integration and reconciliation of data across systems
Produce high-quality reports for Senior Leadership Team, Governors, and stakeholders
Analyze student progress, attainment, and performance trends
Identify concerns relating to student grades to support early intervention
Support target setting, self-evaluation, and school improvement planning
Benchmark outcomes against national and local data
Present data to technical and non-technical audiences
Coordinate assessment data collections in line with school calendar
Work with teaching staff to ensure accurate data entry
Validate and quality-assure data prior to reporting
Prepare termly assessment and progress reports for parents/carers and students
Support GCSE options process
Maintain documentation of assessment processes
Lead preparation and processing of baseline assessments including MidYIS and Yellis testing
Manage import and analysis of baseline assessment data
Produce baseline analysis reports
Lead preparation and submission of statutory returns including school census
Support tables-checking exercises
Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection
Maintain data security and audit processes
Provide training and guidance to staff on assessment data and reporting tools
Support leaders and teachers in interpreting data
Develop guidance and documentation
Support Examinations Officer during peak periods
Keep up to date with national developments
Review and refine data systems and reporting processes
Requirements:
Experience in data management and analysis, preferably in an educational setting
Knowledge of assessment frameworks and data reporting systems
Proficiency in using Management Information Systems (MIS) and data platforms
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
Ability to produce clear, high-quality reports for diverse audiences
Understanding of GDPR, data protection, and statutory data returns (e.g., school census)
Excellent communication and training skills to support staff
Ability to work flexibly during examination periods
Experience with baseline assessments (MidYIS, Yellis) is desirable
