Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Data Entry Clerk to support a university finance team in Hampton, Virginia. This Long-term Contract position focuses on accurately entering high volumes of financial information to support year-end close activities and improve record accuracy. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with numeric data, maintains strong attention to detail, and can handle repetitive tasks with consistency and precision.

Job Responsibility

  • Enter journal entry information into designated systems with a high level of accuracy and speed
  • Support the finance team by processing large volumes of financial data tied to year-end close preparation
  • Review submitted entries for completeness and identify discrepancies before inputting records
  • Maintain organized documentation and ensure data is recorded in the proper format
  • Verify numeric information carefully to reduce errors and protect data integrity
  • Follow established procedures for data handling, record updates, and file maintenance
  • Communicate with team members regarding missing information, corrections, or clarification needs

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in data entry or a related administrative support role
  • Strong typing skills with the ability to enter data efficiently and accurately
  • Experience working with numeric data and maintaining precise financial records
  • High attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies in large data sets
  • Proficiency with computer-based data entry systems and standard office software
