Job Description

As a Data Engineering Manager within the Technology Organization of Arrive Logistics, you’ll play a key role in delivering highly impactful and revenue-generating data products, insights, and capabilities of our Data Platform. Our Data Engineering team is at the heart of our analytics and data science capabilities, with the mission of building a Data Platform to ensure teams in the analytical space have access to infrastructure, systems, and data that fit their unique workflows and use cases. You’ll sit within the Engineering Organization supporting internal technology powering Arrive Logistics in the fast-paced freight industry.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage and mentor a team of Data Engineers, ensuring members of the team have clear career paths and opportunities for learning and growth
  • Evaluate performance of direct reports and hold teammates accountable. Hire, promote and manage as needed.
  • Own and execute on the roadmap for the Data Engineering team, ensuring technical debt and technical priorities are represented alongside the team’s Product-facing roadmap
  • Work with Data and Engineering leadership to set strategy for developing Data Platform components and capabilities
  • Develop strong relationships with leaders in Analytics, Engineering, and Product to align on architectures and standards for ingesting data into the Data Platform and making Data Platform data available to these groups
  • Develop and monitor team KPIs. Run, monitor and analyze reports and provide updates to leadership. Implement related improvements as suggested by data and knowledge of challenges.
  • Set training standards for new hires and continued education. Enable peer to peer training and knowledge transfer.
  • Manage relationships with vendors used for Data Platform components, frequently analyzing costs and weighing tradeoffs between ‘build vs buy’ decisions
  • Define and document standards and best practices for data governance, data management, data quality.
  • Coordinate deployments of data pipelines and systems that have dependencies across Data and Engineering teams
  • Spearhead adoption of new technology, infrastructure, and architectural patterns for teams within in the analytics, reporting, and data science space (including technology/frameworks used by Data Engineering, Data Science, and Analytics Engineering) as we continue building our data stack
  • Take part in Agile ceremonies and work closely with our Project Manager and Tech Lead to ensure meeting cadences and other team processes support the team’s health and vision

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in a technical role focused on data, such as Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience leading projects and/or people within Data, Analytics, or Engineering teams
  • Experience with modern and industry standard data tooling such as Snowflake, FiveTran, Airflow, dbt, and BI tools
  • Experience building highly technical data engineering and science systems, including systems with complex analytical or machine learning components
  • Understanding of common data architectures, processes, and paradigms such as data warehousing/modeling, ETL/ELT, data science model development and deployment, event streaming
  • A passion for mentoring and contributing to the success of those around you
  • Experience coordinating projects that have dependencies across multiple teams or organizations
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and change management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Experience or familiarity working in agile frameworks
