This role sits within BlackRock’s Private Markets Data Engineering (PMDE) team, supporting the delivery of data infrastructure and analytics capabilities for private markets. As an Associate Data Engineer, you will focus on the hands-on development and support of data pipelines and analytics solutions, working under the guidance of more senior engineers. You will contribute to well‑defined workstreams within complex data initiatives, gaining exposure to modern data engineering practices while developing your technical and domain expertise in private markets data. This role is primarily aligned to Project Luna, a strategic initiative focused on modernising how private markets data is managed and consumed at BlackRock. The project is building scalable data infrastructure and analytics platforms to improve transparency, operational efficiency, and data driven decision making across private markets. As an Associate Data Engineer, you will support the implementation and ongoing enhancement of these platforms by contributing to pipeline development, data modelling, and analytics solutions as part of a broader delivery team.
Job Responsibility:
Build and maintain data pipelines and analytics solutions using Snowflake, SQL, and Python, following established architectural standards
Implement data models and transformations to support analytics and reporting use cases
Work with senior engineers to deliver assigned components of larger data initiatives
Collaborate with BI analysts and business partners to clarify data requirements and translate them into technical tasks
Support data quality, reliability, and performance through testing, monitoring, and issue resolution
Apply established best practices in data governance, security, and documentation
Participate in code reviews and team forums to support consistent engineering standards
Proactively raise risks, dependencies, or data issues to senior team members
Contribute to a collaborative team environment and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
Experience in data engineering or a similar technical role, with hands-on exposure to Snowflake, SQL, and Python
Working knowledge of data architecture concepts and data pipeline design
Familiarity with data transformation and orchestration tools such as dbt, Dagster, or Airflow
Experience working alongside data engineers, analysts, or BI teams in a delivery focused environment
Ability to take well defined requirements and implement technical solutions with guidance
Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to problem solving
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
Clear communicator, able to explain technical topics to non-technical partners when required
Nice to have:
Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
Familiarity with CI/CD practices or infrastructure as code tools (e.g. Terraform)
Exposure to analytics or AI/ML enabled data use cases
Some familiarity with the financial services sector and private capital markets (e.g. private equity, real estate, infrastructure)
